Digging in!

At this stage Pakistan had played in Adelaide to draw with Australia in the first of three contests. The second Test was about to commence at the MCG. The series ended in a drawn 1- 1 Australia went on to win the Centenary Test Match between England and Australia at the MCG in March 1977 by 45 runs.

The MCC tour of Australia for the Centenary contest was not considered an Ashes Test.
