Discovering a talisman!

Heavy drought breaking rains had fallen in north and central Victoria. While the Avoca River broke it's banks in Victoria's valuable Pyrenees wine region many parts of Queensland and Western Australia continued in drought conditions.

As always cricket was a high summer interest. The third Test Australia versus England in Sydney on January 1-5 had resulted in a drawn game, with the 7 overs lost due to rain during Australia's second innings, possibly saving Australia from defeat.
