As Prime Minister John Howard lays the wreath for Remembrance Day there is the foreshadow of the response that his government and Australia will have to make to the approaching crisis in East Timor. On 19th November 1996 acting Bishop of Dili, Carlos Belo was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize jointly with Jose Ramos Horta for raising international awareness of the East Timorese independence struggle.
